ELON, N.C. – After an 18-12 record this regular season, including an 11-7 mark in Colonial Athletic Association play, the Elon women’s basketball team has accepted an invitation to play in the 2016 Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).
Elon will play at Virginia Tech in the first round on Thursday, March 17, in Blacksburg, Va. Game time is still TBD. If the Phoenix advances, the second round will take place March 19-22. Information regarding tickets will be announced soon.
This marks the second straight appearance for the Phoenix in the WNIT and fourth overall post-season appearance at the Division I level.
The Postseason WNIT features 32 first-round games, beginning Wednesday through Friday, March 16-18. The event culminates Saturday, April 2, with the championship game, which will be televised live on CBS Sports Network beginning at 3 p.m. ET. The event offers 32 automatic berths, one to each established conference, and 32 at-large berths.
