College Softball News – Guilford’s Moreno Named ODAC Player of the Week Inbox x DCH x

FOREST, Va. – Guilford College’s Sabrina Moreno (Chula Vista, Calif./The Bishop’s School) earned her second Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Softball Player of the Week Award of the season Monday. The rookie outfielder is one of two Quakers who have combined to win three of the league’s weekly softball honors this season.

Moreno hit .421 with four home runs and 11 runs batted in (RBI) in Guilford’s 5-1 week. She also had a double, a triple and scored seven runs. Her slugging percentage for the week was 1.211. Moreno blasted two home runs in a game for the second time this season to spark Guilford past Salem College, 10-5, March 9. She finished with six RBI in the game and seven RBI on the day after plating a run in the Quakers’ opening-game loss to the Spirits. Moreno had a hit, run and an RBI in a wins over Southern Virginia University (3/12) and Wilson College (3/13). In the second game with Wilson, she jacked a sixth-inning, two-run homer among her three hits, which helped the Quakers rally past the Phoenix, 9-4.

Moreno leads the ODAC with six home runs and a 1.000 slugging percentage. Her six home runs rank fifth on Guilford’s single-season chart. She stands fifth among NCAA Division III runs batted in (RBI) per game leaders (2.11) through games of March 10 and is second in the ODAC with 23 RBI. Moreno is hitting .425 through 13 games with 17 hits, including three doubles. She has hits and RBI in nine of 13 contests. Moreno was named ODAC Player of the Week February 22 and the HeroSports.com D3Softball Hero of the Week March 8.

Coach Dennis Shores’ Quakers are 13-3 entering Wednesday’s (3/16) home doubleheader with North Carolina Wesleyan College at 2:00 p.m. on Haworth Field.
