HiTom Alumni at MLB Spring Training

High Point/Thomasville, NC – The High Point-Thomasville HiToms announced today that eight former players are on Major League Baseball Spring Training rosters. The HPT HiToms have the second most number of CPL alumni on Spring Training rosters.

Pitcher Aaron Barrett (’08) headlines the HiToms in the majors as he enters his third season as a reliever for the Washington Nationals. Barrett is coming off of Tommy John surgery and carries an overall record of 6-3 with an ERA of 3.47.

The veteran in the group is relief pitcher Bobby Parnell (2003), spending his first eight seasons with the New York Mets who drafted him. 2016 marks Parnell’s first stint with the Detroit Tigers while building on 37 career saves and 59 career holds.

A pair of pitchers, Asher Wojciechowski (2009) and Jordan Jankowski (2009, 2010, 2011) both landed in Houston. Wojciechowski made his MLB debut with the Astros at the beginning of last season while Jankowski is participating in his second consecutive MLB spring training camp. Another 2009 teammate, Pat Dean (2008, 2009), is also on a 40-man MLB roster. A member of the Minnesota Twins, Dean’s late season 2015 International League performance catapulted him to the top of the Twins prospects list.

Three more HiToms received invitations to MLB spring camps. First baseman Kyle Roller (2007) signed a minor league contract with the Tamp Bay Rays that included a spring training invite. Center fielder Cole Sturgeon (2011) climbed to Double-A in 2015 with the Red Sox and is at his first spring training while Alex Yarbrough (2010) is in the Los Angeles Angels camp.
