GREENSBORO, N.C. – Emily Mott scored two goals and three assists in the University of Mary Washington’s 16-6 lacrosse win at Guilford College Sunday.
The Eagles (4-0) outscored the Quakers, 9-1, in the second half after Guilford (1-2) trailed by only two goals at halftime. Holly Hudson and Hope Lockwood both tallied twice in the second stanza during Mary Washington’s 9-0 run.
Savannah Boyd scored a pair of man-up goals in the opening half, the first of which opened a 4-1 Mary Washington edge. Guilford’s Amanda Dionne and Amber Dubois answered with consecutive scores that brought the hosts to within 4-3 13:19 before intermission. Mary Washington scored three of the first half’s final five goals to take a 7-5 edge.
Mott and six other Eagles each scored two goals. Mackenzie Maguire added an assist to for three points. Other two-goal scorers included: Boyd, Hudson, Lockwood, Julia Albert, and Paige Childers. Childers and Littlefield both won four draws, which helped Mary Washington to a 14-10 edge. Kelsey Welsh started in goal and recorded two saves in 21 minutes. Hanna Ashby relieved her in both halves and stopped five shots in nearly 39 minutes. The Eagles forced 24 Guilford turnovers, 11 on the ride.
Guilford’s Marina Bailey netted a game-best three goals. Dionne finished with two tallies. Summer Fowler picked up eight ground balls and forced seven turnovers, both game highs. Sammi Milbourn made nine saves in 58 minutes in goal.
The Quakers return to action March 7 against visiting Muskingum College at 7:00 p.m.
