NCHSAA DUAL TEAM WRESTLING STATE CHAMPIONS CROWNED

Four new state champions have been crowned as the NCHSAA dual team wrestling tournament concluded after a full week of competition.

1A – Rosewood topples defending champion Mitchell

Mitchell entered the state final looking for their third consecutive state championship, but Rosewood had other ideas as they took home their first dual team state championship, 36-24. Timothy Decatur-Luker was named the finals MVP.

2A – Newton-Conover brings home another title

Newton-Conover claimed their third dual team wrestling championship on Saturday as the Red Devils defeated Dixon 35-24. Newton-Conover was led by Ben Benson, who was awarded Most Valuable Performer in the finals.

The Red Devils also beat Dixon two years ago when they claimed their second dual team title in 2014. The Red Devils edged Croatan in their only other state championship in 2013.

3A – Morehead captures their seventh dual team championship

The 3A powerhouse Morehead notched their seventh dual team title by holding off Enka 39-30. The victory improved Morehead to 7-5 all-time in dual team state championship finals. Jadakiss Jumper was named the MVP. Morehead has won two of the last three dual team tiltes in 3A.

4A – West Forsyth wins their first dual team championship

In a dominating performance, West Forsyth clinched their first dual team state championship, 57-10 over Holly Springs. This was the second trip to the dual team state finals for the Titans, their first coming back in 2007 when they fell to Cary. Chase Eller was named the MVP of the finals.

The 47-point margin of victory was the second largest margin of victory in a state dual team final. The largest was in 2008 when 3A Parkland defeated Morehead 59-6.
