College Men’s Lacrosse News – Guilford Picked Sixth in Preseason ODAC Poll

FOREST, Va. — The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men’s lacrosse coaches picked Guilford College sixth in their annual preseason poll released Thursday. The Quakers earned 42 points in the 10-team ranking. Lynchburg College, the reigning ODAC champions and NCAA Division lll runner-up, collected nine first-place votes and 81 overall points. Roanoke College placed second, receiving one first-place vote, followed by Washington and Lee University.

The Quakers enter the season coming off a 10-6 (4-5 ODAC) record in 2015 and look to start the 2016 campaign the way they did a year ago, winning nine of their first 11 games. At the forefront of Guilford’s attack is senior Adam Fiore (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca), a 2014 All-ODAC honoree, who last year led the team with 37 points and 22 assists in only six games. Fiore suffered a season-ending arm injury against Shenandoah University and looks to return to all-conference form this spring. Fellow senior Dylan Haupt (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive) was a Third-Team All-ODAC selection last season, scoring 20 goals and 26 total points. Guilford also welcomes back junior attacker Alex Brownlee, who totaled 16 goals and 15 assists for the Quakers a year ago, as well as senior face-off and ground-ball specialist Connor Manning (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca).

The Quakers get their first taste of action this Friday when they welcome Division-II Catawba College in a 6:00 p.m. exhibition. Guilford officially opens the season February 17 versus Methodist University in Fayetteville, N.C. The Quakers’ first home game is March 2 against Elizabethtown (Pa.) University .
