College Women’s Soccer Final – Roanoke 3, Guilford 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Roanoke College’s Laura Garbarini scored the first goal that sparked first-half momentum as Guilford College dropped a Wednesday afternoon Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest, 3-0.

Both sides started the first 15 minutes of the contest even, trading headers and offensive opportunities. A minute later, Garbarini received a pass from Emily Whitaker on the left side into the six-yard box where she booted the ball into the goal to claim the lead. Lauren O’Brien created the first of Roanoke’s two breakaway goals when she devliered a thru-ball up the middle to Linnea Kremer in the 28th minute to extend the lead. O’Brien delivered another central pass to create a breakaway, this time leading Sierralynn Johnson in the 44th minute to give Roanoke a three-goal lead.

The Maroons out-shot the Quakers,14-7, while holding the edge on corner kicks, 6-3.

Cheyenne Grim made five saves in net for the Quakers before being relieved by Maggie Albert for the final ten minutes. Sarah Dvorak stopped two shots for Roanoke in the first half before being relieved by Caroline Liebel in the second half, who made one save. Sydney Sherman relieved Liebel for the final five minutes of the contest.

The Quakers honor their senior class Saturday, facing Virginia Wesleyan College in a 5 p.m. ODAC contest inside Appenzeller Field at Armfield Athletic Center.
