College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Ninth After 36 Holes of Golfweek invitational

DESTIN, Fla. – Guilford College shot 295 in Monday’s second round of the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational at the Raven Golf Club. With a two-day total of 589, the Quakers sit 24 strokes behind tournament leader University of Texas-Tyler in ninth place among 18 schools. The Patriots shot 285 Monday and hold a five-stroke edge over defending NCAA Division III national champion Methodist University, 565-570.

Texas-Tyler’s Buddy Hallman maintained a share of the individual lead after Tuesday’s one-over-par 72. In Sunday’s opening round, Hallman blistered the par-71, 6,635-yard Raven circuit with a six-under 65. He shares the top spot in the 90-man field with Rhodes College’s Chris Harris. Harris shot 66 Monday after an opening-round 71. With 36-hole totals of five-under 137, the pair holds a one-stroke lead over Schreiner University’s Phillip Stewart (69-69-138) and Oglethorpe University’s Kyle Shealy, who had the tournament’s low score (64) Monday.

Thanks to eight birdies in two rounds, Guilford’s Ty Palmer (Kernersville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) is four strokes off the lead in a three-way tie for seventh place. Palmer shot a team-best 69 Monday and climbed seven spots in the standings with a 72-69-141. Teammates Justin Perdue and Tanner Gross (Archdale, N.C./Homeschooled) both shot 74 Monday and the Quakers’ Harrison Frye (High Point, N.C./High Point Central) and Aaron Abts (Winston-Salem, N.C./Ledford (UNC Pembroke)) both shot 78. Perdue (72-74-146) shares 27th place among individuals, while Gross (75-74-149) is tied for 43rd place.

The 54-hole tournament features 15 teams ranked among the top-21 teams according to the latest Bushnell Golfweek Division III Poll. The tournament concludes with Tuesday’s final round.
