World Champion Runner Visits Guilford County School to Encourage Students to Make Healthy Choices

Manteo Mitchell is an Olympic silver medalist and N.C. native who specializes in the 200m and 400m. During the 2012 London Olympic Games, Mitchell suffered a broken leg, but still finished his leg of the relay – a story that helped to make him famous. Leading up to his Olympic silver medal in 2012, Mitchell attended Western Carolina University where he broke numerous school records. He is training to earn a spot on Team U.S.A. for the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.

New SUBWAY® “Fit for Life” Online Tool Helps Children Track Healthy Habits

WHAT: Local SUBWAY® restaurants in the Triad are encouraging kids to eat right and get active this October by tracking their healthy habits during the annual two-week “Fit for Life” Challenge. New this year, kids can use a mobile-friendly website to conveniently input their progress at home, school or on vacation.

To get the fitness party started, 2012 silver medalist Manteo Mitchell will visit Jefferson Elementary School where students are taking up the challenge starting Oct. 15. Designed to show kids that being physically active can also be fun, schools that hold their own kickoff event will be eligible to win a RUN JUMP THROW equipment kit, valued at $1,000.
