College Men’s Soccer Final – Emory & Henry 2, Guilford 1

EMORY, Va. – Emory & Henry College’s Jordan Couch scored two goals as Guilford College fell in a Wednesday night Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest, 2-1.

Couch’s first goal came quickly after a Guilford offside call when he received a feed from Tyequis Stallins for the contest’s first goal in the fourth minute. Both teams played even for the rest of the half as the shot count was level, 8-8.

Stallins connected with Couch a second time, in the 52nd minute, after each side recorded a shot, to extend the lead, 2-0. With Guilford widening the shot advantage in the second half, Mark Dandanell put the Quakers on the board in the 78th minute to keep the Quakers in the contest. The Quakers produced two more opportunities at the goal in the remainder of the period, but the Wasps held for the victory.

The Quakers out-shot the Wasps, 20-12, and held the edge on corner kicks, 8-0.

Eric Hayes (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) made eight saves in net for the Quakers while Emory & Henry’s Didier Grillet stopped seven of nine shots on goal. The Wasps’ back line made two goal-line saves.

The Quakers return home Saturday, facing Randolph-Macon College for a 7 p.m. ODAC contest.
