College Men’s Soccer Final – Washington and Lee 4, Guilford 0

LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee University’s Ben Bayles scored two goals as Guilford College fell at Washington and Lee in Sunday afternoon’s Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest, 2-0.

Most of Washington and Lee’s (6-2-1, 4-0 ODAC) offense came in an 8:22 stretch in the early portion of the first half. Dylan Ritch started the surge with a goal in the eighth minute to put the Generals on the board. Bayles followed with the next two goals in the 10th and 16th minutes, 5:43 apart. Bayles’ 10th minute goal came on a penalty kick. Tyler Runge added insurance in the 85th minute off an assist from Andy Dean.

Jake Elsey nearly capitalized on a shot in the 77th minute, with his shot hitting the post for one of the Quakers’ few chances on the afternoon.

Washington and Lee out-shot the Quakers, 34-2, and held the edge on corner kicks, 14-2.

Eric Hayes (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) made nine saves in net for the Quakers. Gillen Beck earned the start for Washington and Lee while Connor Heyward played the final 25:35 of the contest.

The Quakers (5-4, 2-1 ODAC) return to action Wednesday, traveling to Emory & Henry College for a 6:30 p.m. ODAC contest.
