College Women’s Soccer Final – Guilford 3, William Peace 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kelli Uresti led Guilford College’s first-half attack with a goal and an assist as the Quakers earned a Friday evening victory over William Peace University, 3-0.

All of Guilford’s goals came in the first half, where the Quakers (1-1) held a 5-3 shot advantage and converted on two set pieces. Julianna Evans-Anfom converted on Guilford’s first set-piece goal in the tenth minute when Cassie Vaughn fired a near-side corner kick that Evans-Anfom deflected inside the six-yard box to put the Quakers up early. Annaliese Rutishauser took advantage of a William Peace turnover in the Quakers’ offensive zone and fed Uresti from the right side of the box to increase the lead in the 19th minute.

Evans-Anfom drew a foul in the 34th minute one yard outside the box, which set up a Quaker free kick from short distance. With a cross floating past the right side of the William Peace wall, Uresti connected with Morgan Wolfe to extend the lead, 3-0.

The Quakers outshot the Pacers, 15-5, with a 10-2 second-half advantage. The Quakers held the corner kick advantage, 5-1.

Maggie Albert (1-1) earned the start and the victory for the Quakers, making all three saves on the night. Becca Banks played the first 27:51 of the second half while Cheyenne Grim finished the remainder 17:09 of the contest. Shannon Maddex took the loss for the Pacers, making two saves in the first half. Brittany Bolin relieved Maddex in the second half, stopping four shots.

The Quakers return home for their third-straight home game Sunday, hosting Wesleyan College in a 1 p.m. contest inside Appenzeller Field at Armfield Athletic Center.
