Women’s Soccer Sails Past Hollins in Season Opener, 14-0

ROANOKE , VA – Lauren Greeson netted five goals on Wednesday afternoon as the Pride women’s soccer team defeated Hollins University by a 14-0 score to open the 2015 season.

Greensboro took an early 1-0 lead in the game when Greeson beat the Hollins keeper for the first time just over four minutes into the contest. Once the Pride established the lead, they would not look back as they tacked on six more goals in the period to go into the intermission break with a 7-0 lead.

Greeson accounted for three of the first half goals while Melanie Raton, Caitlyn Cook, Amanda Foley, and Keegan Bickel each recorded one goal.

The second half proved to be a mirror image of the first segment. The Pride extended their lead to 11-0 just nine minutes into the second half before coming away with the 14-0 victory.

“It’s always nice to go on the road and get a win,” Head Coach Gus Mota stated following the game. “We had an opportunity to further evaluate our roster while capitalizing on a few early opportunities. Now we have to shift our focus towards Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.

Megan Cole and Melanie Raton joined Greeson with multiple goals on the day while five other players tallied one each including Ericka Nash.

Samara Alba led the way in the assist column with three to go along with one goal. Gabbriele Edinger, Lauren Greeson, Ericka Nash, Raton, Foley, and Bickel also added one assist in the game.

Brittany Morrison (1-0) started between the pipes for the Pride and recorded two saves in 33 minutes of play. Ly’Shanette Major and Kianna Anderson each recorded one save in a combined 23 minutes of play in goal.

The Pride women’s soccer team (1-0) will return to the field on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM against the Wolves of Wesleyan College. The game will be played at Greensboro Day School in Greensboro, North Carolina.
