HPU Women’s Hoops Announces 2015-16 Non-Conference Slate

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women’s basketball team has released its 2015-16 non-conference schedule, which features an international trip to the Cancun, Mexico and three games inside the Millis Center.

The Purple & White’s tough slate includes four postseason qualifiers, including a 2014-15 national semifinalist.

“I’m looking forward to our ultra-competitve non-conference schedule,” head coach DeUnna Hendrix said. “As a staff, we felt it was important to test our young team early and to compete against some of the best. There is no doubt that our non-conference slate will prepare us for a challenging Big South schedule.”

HPU opens its season at home against Greensboro College on Friday, Nov. 13. The Panthers lead the all-time series 6-0 and earned an 81-59 win in an exhibition game against the Pride last year.

The first road trip of the year will send HPU to Raleigh, N.C. to play NC State on Nov. 15. The Panthers pushed the Wolfpack to the brink last season, but fell 66-62.

The squad will stay on the road and travel to assistant coach Laura Harper’s alma mater Maryland on Nov. 18. The Terrapins are coming off a 2014-15 season that saw them win the Big Ten and advance to the Final Four.

The three-game road trip will culminate with a Nov. 21 showdown with UNCG. The Panthers posted a come-from-behind 78-67 win over the Spartans last season to take a 14-12 lead in the all-time series.

Davidson, then, visits the Millis Center on Nov. 24. It’s the fifth straight season the Wildcats and the Panthers have played in the non-conference – the longest active streak for High Point. The teams have split the previous four meetings.

The stop at home isn’t a long one for the Purple & White. The day after playing Davidson the team will board a plane and head to Cancun, Mexico to take part in the 2015 Cancun Challenge.

HPU opens their second-ever international trip against UAB on Thanksgiving Day in the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya (Nov. 26). On the next evening, the Panthers take on Georgia Tech – the third high major opponent of the non-conference slate.

Following a pair of Big South contests in the first week of December, HPU will host VCU on Dec. 16. The Panthers will be looking to knot the all-time series at 2-2.

The non-conference lineup concludes with a tussle at Elon – the third game against a Piedmont Triad foe. It will mark the 71st meeting between the Panthers and the Phoenix with HPU holding a 37-33 advantage in the series.
