Elon’s Olson Tabbed to Compete Versus Team USA Softball

ELON, N.C. – Infielder Hannah Olson of the Elon University softball team has been selected to compete as a member of the College All-Star team in a doubleheader exhibition against the USA National Softball Team this Saturday, July 11, at 6 p.m. at the Moody Park in Ewing Township, N.J.

Olson will be one of 19 participants of current or former collegiate softball players that will square off against Team USA in the twin bill on Saturday. The exhibition will serve as a tune-up for Team USA before the start of the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.

“It’s just an awesome opportunity to get a chance to play against USA national team,” said Olson. “It’s something that you kind of always dreamed of when you were little to play at that level so it’s just a awesome opportunity. I am really excited to play alongside some great players.”

A native of Yorktown, Va., Olson made an immediate impact for the Phoenix during her rookie campaign in 2015. She finished tied for second on the team in batting average (.331) and also tied the team-lead in stolen bases (seven). She also finished among the top-three on the team in several other categories including slugging percentage (.479), runs scored (33), hits (47) and doubles (12).

Olson also earned a number of awards during her freshman season. She was chosen as the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week on Feb. 10, and was tabbed the league’s Player of the Week on Feb. 24. She was then placed on the CAA All-Rookie team.

“Hannah is going to play in a game that is going to be an unbelievable experience for her,” said Elon head coach Kathy Bocock. “She’s going to be playing with and against some high-level competition, but Hannah can handle that. She will be able to not only play with them, but also shine. We are very happy as a program for her to have this opportunity and will be cheering her on this weekend.”
