HiToms Drop Two in a Row

HiToms fall on independence day to the Gastonia Grizzlies, 5-3
THOMASVILLE, NC, July 4 – In front of the biggest crowd of the year, the Gastonia Grizzlies (21-12) showed off timely hitting scoring three runs in the top of the ninth beating the HiToms (16-16), 5-3.

An early start set the tone for Gastonia as they worked back-to-back walks for the first two at bats, which were eventually plated for runs one and two.

The HiToms responded in the bottom of the first with a lone run from Nick Lopez (Creighton) and then another lone run from Lopez in the bottom of the third. From here the score stayed at a dead lock 2-2 until the top of the ninth.

Gastonia proved their 21-12 record by plating three game winning runs in the top of the ninth. Cody Lovejoy (Texas State) tried to spark a fire with a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the ninth. However, the Tommies were able to come full swing and complete the comeback.

Tomorrow night the independence weekend continues at Finch Field with fireworks following directly after the game between the HiToms and Holly Springs Salamanders. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
