HPU’s Novotna’s Personal-Record Highlights Second Day at NCAA Prelims

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Tereza Novotna of the Elon women’s track and field team set a new personal-record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as the Phoenix competed on the second day at the NCAA East Preliminaries on Friday, May 29, at Hodges Stadium at the University of North Florida.

Novotna clocked in a time of 10:10.04 in the race – breaking her previous personal and school-record by 12 seconds. She finished 20th overall in the event after coming in the race seeded 43rd overall in the region.

Jen Esposito finished 16th in the semifinals of the 400-meter hurdles, just missing out on advancing to the national meet. Esposito ran a time of 58.56 in the race to close out a great 2015 track and field season for the Mansfield, Mass, native.

Also closing out her track and field season was junior Sydney Griffin in the 100-meter hurdles. The Marietta, Ga., native ran in a time of 13.64 in the event and was 32nd overall.

The third and final day of the meet concludes tomorrow, May 30, with the Phoenix’s lone athlete in competition, Megan Kirschling, in the high jump at 6 p.m.
