Elon Baseball Season Closes With a Loss to Delaware

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The 2015 Elon baseball season came to a close on Friday, May 22, as the Phoenix was eliminated from the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament with a 4-1 loss to Delaware at Patriots Point.

Elon finishes its first season as a member of the CAA with a 25-29 overall record. Delaware improved to 25-23.

Ryan Cooper went 1-for-2 and drove in the lone Elon run.

Tyler Dean came off the bench for Delaware and went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Lucas Bakker (5-7) took the loss after he gave up three runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings.

Colman Vila (2-1) kept Elon hitless for 7.1 innings before a Nick Zammarelli single. He departed after 7.1 innings and was charged with one run. Taylor Mahoney tossed the final 1.2 innings to earn his third save of the year.

How it happened: Brock Niggebrugge led off the bottom of the third with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. With runners on the corners, Zach Lopes grounded in to a double play to score Niggebrugge with the game’s first run. Delaware added two in the fifth and one more in the sixth.
