NCHSAA Performance of the Week

ATHLETES FROM PINE FOREST, WEST HENDERSON EARN NCHSAA PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Ryan Davis of Pine Forest High School in Fayetteville and Samantha Holmes of West Henderson are the winners of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Subway® Restaurants.

Each week one male and one female athlete in NCHSAA competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Holmes had a couple of excellent performances in a pair of West Henderson women’s soccer victories. She had four goals in a win over Smoky Mountain, and her team really needed them as the Falcons scored a 5-2 triumph.

She had a pair of tallies in a much easier 7-1 victory over Canton Pisgah, giving her 101 for her career and 14 goals for the current season.

Davis was a big reason for his men’s track team’s victory in last week’s 16th annual Bill Carver Track and Field Invitational in Fayetteville, a prestigious event. He won both the shot put and the discus, and those points were key in propelling Pine Forest to the team championship in the men’s meet, as Pine Forest scored 89 points to 85 for runner-up Fayetteville Jack Britt.

Davis established a meet record in the shot put with a heave of 54 feet, 10 feet, and he also won the discus with a throw of 162 feet, 10 inches.

TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during a SportsNight show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients are also recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
