Gate City FC Fans Choose Mascot

Gate City FC fans scratched their heads and put to pencil to paper recently in a contest to choose a mascot for the new professional soccer club.

The name chosen is the “Generals,” in reference to the city’s historical connections to the revolutionary war. “We’re excited to have such strong interest from the community in naming the team,” said team president Justin Cox. “The outpouring of support caught us quite off guard and we’re thrilled to be able to name the team based on fan support.”

Entering in its second year, the team is transitioning into the USL, and playing a competitive exhibition schedule against USL, NASL and other NPSL teams. “The challenges we are facing have created the need for restructuring within our club, and we’re pleased to offer new and exciting promotions for our sponsors and fans.” Cox said.

The Triad’s newest entry into the sports entertainment marketplace, Gate City FC offers community and family-oriented, affordable soccer events to the Triad.

Easily located at the beautiful Guilford College Armfield Sports Complex, the team picks its players from a bevy of local talent .
