College Men’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 23, Birmingham Southern 5

ROSWELL, Ga. – Guilford College opened the men’s lacrosse season with a convincing 23-5 victory over Birmingham Southern College Saturday at Centennial High School. The 23 tallies mark the most scored by the Quakers in a season opener.

Guilford (1-0) raced to a 13-0 halftime lead and held an 18-3 edge after three quarters. Freshman Cole Woodward, one of two Quakers making their college debuts on his old high school field, tallied twice in the victory.

The Quakers’ 23 goals mark their highest single-game scoring total in over 10 years. The last time Guilford dent the twine so often was in a 23-4 road victory over Shenandoah University.
The Panthers dropped to 3-1 with the loss.

Coach Tom Carmean’s club visits cross-town rival Greensboro College Wednesday (2/25) before hosting St. Mary’s College of Maryland Saturday (2/28) in its home opener.
