HiToms Hire Brandon Haygood as 2015 Head Coach

High Point – Thomasville, NC – The High-Point Thomasville HiToms have named Brandon Haygood as their 16th head coach. A former HiTom, Haygood returns to Finch Field as the fifth former HiTom to lead the Tommies.

An assistant at Alabama A & M, Haygood’s tenure in Huntsville, AL is his third Division 1 coaching stop. Previously serving on the staffs of UT-Arlington and Louisiana Tech, Haygood also served as an assistant at Loyola Prep in Shreveport, LA and as the head coach of the Texas Slam.

“I’d like to thank Brian Rountree and Greg Suire for this amazing opportunity to coach the 2015 HiToms.” Haygood said. “As a student-athlete, I spent three summers representing the HiToms and words can’t express the gratitude I have for the community, host families and fans. This is truly a blessing.”

Playing for the HiToms in 2002, ’03 and ’04, Haygood led the Tommies to Western division championships in two of his three seasons while garnering 2004 CPL All-Star honors and hitting .278 with 10 doubles and 40 runs scored.

“My experiences as a HiTom provided me the opportunity to mature as a ballplayer and a man,” Haygood emphasized. “Now, it seems as if my life has come full circle as I embark on a journey to motivate and lead young men through their maturation.”

A four-year letter winner at Louisiana Tech, Haygood paced the Bulldogs in 2004 in stolen bases (21), runs scored (49) and games played (58). The Shreveport, LA native continued to shine in his senior campaign pacing the Bulldogs in runs scored (41), doubles (20) and triples.

“Brandon understands what it means to be a HiTom and the expectations that come with being our head coach,” Vice President of Player Personnel Brian Rountree said. “His Division I playing and coaching experience will allow this organization to thrive and Brandon’s blue collar, hardnosed approach will inspire our players and fan base.”

Following his collegiate career, Haygood went on to play three professional seasons in the American Association League with Shreveport and El Paso.

Earning his bachelor’s of science degree in Kinesiology and Health promotions from LA Tech, Haygood also holds a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Texas @ Arlington.

Haygood is married to the former Adasha Marshall of Houston, TX and the couple have two children, Zoey and Zane.
