Former Longwood College Lancer Jerome Kersey gone at age 52

Jerome Kersey came out of a super-small college, Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia and was the top Lance to ever come out of that program…

Kersey was an outstanding rebound and scorer for the Portland Trailblazers in the pros and he played alongside the likes of Clyde “The Glide” Drexler and Kevin Duckworth….

Jerome Kersey age 52 has left behind many basketball memories and he had a valid NBA career made up of 17 seasons…He was a 6’7 small forward, but he played big and strong and was for sure a tough guy, that could really rebound…

How tough was he?

The word is he just had knee surgery on Monday and he ran into one of his former Portland friends early Wednesday prior to his death and the friend, a long-time radio announcer for the Trailblazers asked Kersey where are your crutches and Jerome Kersey just told the guy, “I don’t need any crutches”….

Jerome Kersey walking down a different highway today and one of the best that will ever wear a Longwood Lancers uniform…One of our local players, Kanayo Obi-Rapu Jr. is up in Farmville, playing for the Lancers this season and maybe he can keep the Kersey boards a ‘Blazing…….

  1. They are saying the cause of Kersey’s death was a blood clot that traveled from his left knee to his left lung…

    Blood Clot cause of death.

  2. I knew Jerome Kersey he was from the same small town as myself a little place called Clarksville, Virginia. I played pickup ball with Jerome back in the day. He went to the same high school as I did (Bluestone Sr. High). I watch him play at Longwood College and whow what a player he was. He set and broke so many records while playing for the Lancers. But most of all I remember the person he was a great person that cared about people, his family and the community that he came from. If you drive into Clarksville you will see a sign that states this. Welcome to Clarksville, Virginia Home of Jerome Kersey and home it was to him. RIP Jerome we will never forget you and prayers to your family and many friends.
