I was lucky to get to go to the Guilford Technical Community College-Wake Technical Community College game yesterday and report live for greensborosports.com. I am glad that I was able to go.

Since I go to GTCC, I have seen them scrimmage and practice. This was the first game that I had attended this season. I sure did pick a brilliant game to attend. Another thing that I did not realize is how many local high school hoops stars play for GTCC.

These players are incredible and include: Kaleel Walton (Western Guilford), Andre Saunders (Western Alamance), Tim Kilpatrick (Northwest Guilford), Brice Robertson (Gospel Light Christian), Yazid Laury (Eastern Guilford), Mike Smith (Eastern Randolph), and Ryan Passini (Northern Guilford). I know these are talented players coming out of high school, but WTCC had some players who had already played at the next level. They had players who had previously played at: Potomac State College, Catawba College, St. Andrews University, Pfeiffer University, and Louisburg College. GTCC had to play as a team if they wanted to win this huge conference game!

WTCC came out on fire. They started the game on a 15-2 run. It did not look good for the GTCC Titans. They did not give up though. They had a big home crowd behind them. The crowd was cheering them on and motivating them to play better as a team. GTCC made some good little runs in the first half to make the game manageable to come back.

Every time that GTCC would make a run; WTCC would make a run of their own to make it a comfortable lead. GTCC made one final push at the end of the half and went into halftime only down five points.

GTCC started the second half ready to take the lead for the first time in the game. They took the lead about halfway through the second half. They did not have it long though (only for about a minute). WTCC took the lead again and looked like they were not going to give it up.

GTCC made several surges in the second half to take the lead for good. They all failed, except their surge in the last two minutes of the game. It WAS a little under two minutes to go and GTCC was down by three points. They dribbled up the floor and passed the ball around a found a wide open Kaleel Walton (Western Guilford). He shot the ball and drained a three pointer to tie the game up. Yazid Laury (Eastern Guilford) got fouled with 15 seconds left. He hit both free throws. GTCC was up by two points.

For some reason, GTCC fouled WTCC and they went to the free throw line with a chance to tie the game. WTCC hit the first free throw, but could not hit the second free throw to tie the game. Jaylen Osbey got the huge rebound for GTCC and got fouled and went to the free throw line with 7.9 seconds left. He hit the first free throw, but missed the second free throw.

Kaleel Walton (Western Guilford) gets the offensive rebound for GTCC and fouled with 6.0 seconds left in the game. This was one of the biggest plays of the game. He hit one free throw to let GTCC go up by three points. WTCC draws a foul with 5.3 seconds left. They hit both free throws to go down by one point.

Jaylen Osbey gets fouled with 4.3 seconds left. He hits both free throws for GTCC to put them up by three points.

WTCC throws the ball in and while dribbling down the sideline gets called for stepping out of bounds with 1.9 seconds left. GTCC throws it into Brice Robertson (Gospel Light Christian) and he throws the ball straight up in the air.

The buzzer sounds and GTCC gets a nail-biter win over an incredibly talented WTCC basketball team.
