East Lincoln, Chapel Hill Athletes Earn NCHSAA Performance of the Week Awards

CHAPEL HILL— Chazz Surratt of East Lincoln and Raziyah Farrington of Chapel Hill have been named winners of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Subway® Restaurants.

Each week one male and one female athlete in NCHSAA competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Surratt, quarterback for the East Lincoln football team, was named Most Valuable Player of the NCHSAA 2-AA championship game at BB&T Field as he led the Mustangs to a narrow 14-13 victory over Washington. He accounted for both East Lincoln touchdowns, running for one and throwing for another. Surratt rushed for 75 yards in 23 carries and threw for 212 yards, completing 15 of 28 passes and throwing the game-winning TD pass in the fourth quarter to lift East to victory.

Farrington had a couple of big games for the Tigers last week. She scored 24 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, hitting eight of 11 shots from the field, as Chapel Hill rolled past cross-town rival East Chapel Hill 65-35. She went over the 1000-point mark for her career in that victory. Earlier in the week, Chapel Hill had a 35-game winning streak snapped by a tough Durham Hillside team, 61-58, but Farrington led the way for her team with 20 points in that one.

TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during their Tuesday night SportsNight show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients are also recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
