VESTAL, N.Y. – For the second week in a row, freshman guard Imani Watkins(High Point Andrews High School) has been named the America East Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week. She earns the honor by virtue of her performance in the Bearcats’ game against Xavier on Saturday night.

With the Bearcats’ Nov. 19 game at Canisius postponed due to weather conditions, Watkins made the most of her only game of the week. She scored 19 points against the Musketeers to go along with four rebounds, two assists and a block.

Through three games this season, Watkins is averaging a team-high 19.7 points per contest. Her career-high of 21 points came against Delaware State on Nov. 22.

Watkins is the second Binghamton women’s basketball player to be named the America East’s top rookie in each of the first two weeks during a season. Jasbriell Swain was selected on Nov. 15 and 22 during the 2010-11 campaign.

The Bearcats (1-2) begin a busy week as they host Niagara on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
