Elon Track and Field Kicks Off Indoor Season at JDL All-Comers Meet

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Highlighted by individual titles by junior Sydney Griffin and sophomore Breanna Warren, the Elon University women’s track and field team opened its indoor season on Saturday morning, Nov. 22, at the JDL All-Comers meet inside the JDL Fast Track complex.

“We had some bright spots in our first meet of the year,” said Elon director of track and field and cross country Mark Elliston. “We had a couple of people sick and not feeling well, but other than that I thought we did pretty well. We still have some work to do and this is a good indication of what we need to work on.”

Griffin won the 60-meter hurdles crown after crossing the line with a time of 8.91. Rookies Lydia Laws and Emily Dixon were third and fourth in the race with times of 9.11 and 9.18, respectively.

Warren captured the shot put title after the Greensboro, N.C., native had a new personal-best toss of 43’ 3” (13.18m). Another rookie, Bryanna Hames, was second in the event with a heave of 40’ 9” (12.43m), the fifth-best throw in school history.

Junior Megan Kirschling was the runner-up in the high jump with a cleared height of 5’ 5.75” (1.67m). Dixon was fourth overall after clearing the bar at 4’ 11.75” (1.52m). Senior Claire Smith had a top-three standing in the pole vault with a mark of 10’ 8” (3.25m).

In the 400-meters, Jennifer Pash was the runner up in the race with her time of 58:34. Elon finished fourth overall in the 4×400-meter relay with its time of 4:04.53 with the quartet of Laws, Pash, Dixon and Simone Jackson.

Elon will not compete again until the turn of the calendar year as they Phoenix returns to the JDL Fast Track Complex for the Wake Forest Invitational on Jan. 10.
