Friday Night Finish with now just two Guilford County teams still in the chase

Word we have has just two Guilford County teams still in chase for the 2014 NCHSAA State Title…
Northern Guilford at Hillsborough Orange and Eastern Wayne at Southern Guilford next Friday night….

Ragsdale lost had to be a heart-breaker down at Charlotte Vance with the Tigers falling 21-19, according to last report we received….From the reports that I was reading, Tiger Coach Tommy Norwood very proud of his team and their effort tonight….

High Point Central also saw its season come to a close with a Bison loss at Charlotte Catholic….The score we heard had the Cougars winning big(49-17) so we had one Guilford County team go down in a tight one and the other falling hard….

Northern Guilford and Southern Guilford claimed Round Two victories tonight and both the Nighthawks and the Storm will move into Round Three action next Friday night with Northern(12-1) on the road to take on (12-1) Hillsborough Orange and Southern Guilford will play host to Eastern Wayne(11-2)….

Big win totals for Southern and Northern tonight with both the Storm and the Nighthawks rolling to victories…The NG score was somewhere in the 58-28 neighborhood and Southern came out on top, 36-18…

Do not yet have any Northern Guilford numbers, but we were at the SG game and we can tell you that Southern got 4 TD’s from Reggie Gallaspy and one from Ron Hunt who caught a nice pass from Nathan Stoner for the touchdown…Gallaspy had one TD on a 71-yard TD jaunt and he must have had close to 200 yards at halftime tonight there inside C.K. Siler Stadium…Solid game on both sides of the ball from Romello Herbin and even the Storm QB Stoner was in there knocking it out on defense…..Gallaspy gets in on defense too and Southern with Garrett Blackburn registering another sack tonight and a tackle of two for a loss, all of this made the Storm fans get to their feet and stand in awe of their young men from Southern Guilford tonight….

We’ve got to go get some of those Northern numbers and back in that Southern Guilford win, when the Storm went for the two-point conversion, they had wildcat back Reggie Gallaspy throw a pass to Romello Herbin for the two….

More numbers coming soon for you….
Northern numbers came in with C.J. Freeman rushing for 231 yards….QB Cam Harris was 9-13 for 278 yards…Tucker Hord had 3 receptions for 110 yards….5 touchdowns for C.J. Freeman tonight….

Reggie Gallaspy tonight with 314 yards and now with 3,38 for the season in 2014 and now with 48 TD’s….

  1. Sorry CJ Freeman had 5 TD’s. – From News Record Junior running back C.J. Freeman ran for 231 yards and five touchdowns as the Nighthawks piled up 342 yards on the ground and 620 total on offense.
“The line was opening the holes for me, and I was running through as fast as I could,” said Freeman, who had scoring runs of 67, 35 and 73 yards. “They told me all week I had to run hard to win this playoff game, and our whole offense goes through our running game. I think we proved our running game is a key part of our offense.”

  2. Fixed on Freeman and now we have Freeman with 5 TD’s….Was also reading that N&R account from Paul Durham from the Wilson newspaper…

N&R has a lot of info for us tonight over there at their site….

  3. Rocky Mount talked trash all night.

Reggie left ash all night! That is Gryphons in the ashes after he blazed by them.

  4. Reggie Gallaspy sort of reminds me of Ricky Adams from Ragsdale back in the 70’s….Power back that can still fly once he hits the open land Adams led the Ragsdale Tigers to two State 3-A Title…One was a tie game back in 1973 when they used to let ties stand and the other title came for Ragsdale when they earned it outright in 1974,,,,

Seem to be similar runners in a lot of ways with again the power and then the 5th or 6th gear when they get into space and then they are gone….

Adams went by the name, “Buck the Truck” he was so strong and Gallaspy has some of that same strength and power…

Ironic too that Adams upon graduation from Ragsdale entered N.C. State and became a strong runner for the Wolfpack and Reggie Gallaspy, now some 40 years later, he is heading to N.C. State as well……

Adams and Gallaspy, Gallaspy and Adams….We are always looking for something or someone to compare our current players to and maybe this is it….

Mark Teer who reads and follows this site and he is a very big Ragsdale fan going many years, he for sure remembers Ricky Adams and maybe some others do to….

Would be kind of neat to see this in even more of a retrospective study/research, but that may take a few trips down to the downtown library and a few visits into their microfilm for the detailed info on Adams…

Gallaspy and Adams, they may have been separated at birth….Who knows for sure??? And does anybody know where Adams is today???

  5. For those that saw Ted Brown run, what type of runner was Ted Brown in comparison to Reggie Gallaspy????

I did not see Ted Brown run in person, anybody out there see him run at High Point Andrews?

He later ran at N.C. State too….

  6. ANDY I SEEN TED BROWN AND HE HAD IT ALL. HE WAS BETTER THAN GALLASPY AND RICKEY ADAMS. RAGSDALE ALSO HAD TONY BAKER THE TOUCHDOWN MAKER, WHO ALSO WENT TO STATE.
BROWN, BAKER, GALLASPY, ADAMS ALL GREAT HS BACKS.
THE BEST I EVER SEEN OUT OF NC WAS CARLESTER CRUMPLIER, 6-2 230LBS. COULD STOP ON A DIME. HE WAS FROM WILSON PIKE, THEN ECU, AND LATER WITH THE REDSKINS. HIS SON PLAYED AT UNC AND ATLANTA AS A TIGHT END.

  7. I have heard great things about Carlester Crumpler over the years and I used to hear him on East Carolina radio games along-side Jeff Charles…

Crumpler was one of the best and he put up some huge football numbers back in the day…

Everyone in the eastern part of North Carolina knew Carlester Crumpler….

Coach Harvey Reid was a big name down there at Wilson Fike too, but he was in basketball….

Crump, as Jeff Charles used to call him could really break down the football games on the radio and I have a lot of respect for him…..
