High School Football Saturday morning rewind:Looking back at the Friday night stats/games

Time to start tossing out some of those Friday night numbers and if we start with the top team, we begin with Dudley and the Panthers got three touchdowns from Connell Young and two more from Darius Graves, plus Hendon Hooker and Tyree Knight each took in a TD by way of the ground game…
No other real hard numbers to report on Dudley, but the real key number for the Panthers is their (8-0) record….We will look to get some more stat news on Dudley as we hit next week and next week, Dudley will be at Page…According to the News and Record report with Joe Sirera, Dudley got some young kids in the game on Friday at Grimsley and were to build on their experience at all positions in the 50-7 rout…

Reggie Gallaspy from Southern Guilford did not hit the 250 yard mark rushing last night, but he did go for 200, or right at the 200-mark, he had 195 and Reggie did hit his quota for touchdowns, as he ran for 4 TD’s…Storm QB Nathan Stoner also delivered a TD pass by air and Nijel Thomas found the end zone on the ground from 42 yards out….

The Dudley Panthers are (8-0) and Southern Guilford sits at (10-0) and as we mentioned last night, SG has a chance to complete a perfect regular season with a win a home next Friday night versus a stout Ledford Panther team….Ledford at (7-1/3-1) on the season and Southern only had one regular season loss back in 2012 and that came when the Storm fell at Orange, about mid-way in the season…Here comes Ledford to C.K. Siler Stadium next Friday night….

Jamiel Mack had 134 yards passing and 75 yards rushing last night for High Point Central and Mack goes for two TD’s passing and one TD running for the Bison…The biggest night of all on Friday for HP Central was saved for RB Chavis Little, who gained 251 yards rushing, on 22 carries and he scored two touchdowns…Pretty Little is only a sophomore…Charles Edmund with 76 yards receiving and a TD for HPC…Alec Cobb had another big night for Ragsdale with 4 TD passes from his QB spot with two of those going to T.J Parker and one each, to Taylor Still and Ronald Chloe…Not sure of Cobb’s overall numbers, but the kid is rounding into form since returning from his broken collar bone three weeks/games ago..Parker probably had some pretty nice numbers too from his wideout spot..

Cam Harris had another big game for Northern Guilford with two TD passes, a TD run of 17 yards and he took back a pick six for his other touchdown..Harris along with Mook Reynolds(3 pass receptions for 90 yards and a 78-yarder for a TD), are both beginning to put up more and more senior moments that they can take along with them in a good way to look back on for years to come when this season is long gone….Tre Marsh added two TD receptions for the Nighthawks and he has also stepped up his game in recent weeks…One TD for C.J. Freeman for the ‘Hawks…

Got to find some more numbers on Eastern Guilford but the bad news number is that suffered loss #3 on the year and it was their second conference loss, when the Wildcats fell at Western Alamance 20-17 after leading in that game, 17-0….Coach Doug Robertson summed it up best when the ‘Cats coach said, “We’ve got to finish and we didn’t finish”….Tough to take, but the coach is “spot on” there…

Greg Liggs and Stephen Baldwin put up some impressive numbers for the Southeast Guilford Falcons in their win at Southern Alamance….Liggs ran for 123 yards and he Liggs had three overall TD’s with two by land and one by air and Baldwin also tallied three touchdowns and he got all of his on the run…QB Bubba Craven was 6-10 for SEG and he hit for 128 yards and the Liggs TD, plus Garrett Church found the end zone for the Falcons and ran for 92 yards and the Church TD went for 33….Five PAT kicks last night for Dustin Richardson from SEG….Not bad at all for the senior…
*****More on Liggs from the Burlington Times-News:MT. HERMON — Greg Liggs Jr. scored three touchdowns and a two-point conversion in the game’s opening 17 minutes as Southeast Guilford decked Southern Alamance 49-14 in All Metro Conference football Friday night.*****

For Kevin Gehsmann and Western Guilford, three TD’s with two running and one on a pass from Tevan Evans and Gehsmann completed all three of his PAT boots, but his Hornets still lost…WG falls by three points to Central Davidson, 24-21 and the Hornets are pretty much done for the year…Got to play for some pride the rest of the way…Asheboro(6-3/3-1) at WG next Friday night and that will test your pride right quick….

More is on the way…..
In the 35-34 Overtime loss by High Point Andrews at Eastern Randolph we had D.J. Hill running for two touchdowns and he also caught one touchdown pass to lead the Red Raiders….from the Burlington Times-News…I bring back that line from Eastern Guilford coach Doug Robertson again and they had to be saying this along the HP Andrews sidelines last night:“We’ve got to finish and we didn’t finish”…..

Metro Madness:
Dudley(3-0)
SEG(3-0)
Page(2-1)

PTA Play:
East Forsyth(3-0)
NWG(3-0)

Mid-State Debate:

*****Eastern Alamance at Eastern Guilford next Friday night.*****

Mid-Piedmont Powers:
Southern Guilford(5-0)
Asheboro(3-1)
Ledford(3-1)

+++++High Point Christian now (7-2) after their 37-3 win over the Cannon School on Friday night and it looks like the Cougars are playoff-bound and they are hoping for Round One game at home….+++++

Page game with the Pirates win over Smith pretty much went something like this:
Page scores first on a punt block and then the return of the blocked punt for a Touchdown by Diondre Overton….The Harrison Kiser kick was good, 7-0 Page….

Page capitalized on the Smith turnover, but Smith battled back and scored on a run by Terrell Dumpson, but the extra point kick attempt kick by Petrol Nie was blocked by Page and the score was 7-6 Page over Smith as we hit the halftime mark…Page did miss a field goal attempt by Harrison Kiser from around 25 yards out, but Kiser later connected from 35 yards and Page grabbed a lead of 10-6 in the second half….Smith drove down to the Page five-yard line, but the Golden Eagles were denied and Page made a march back up the field in half number two and Micah Gafford ran the ball in from around 4 yards away to hit the end zone off of the left side and with the Harrison Kiser kick the Page lead swells up to 17-6 Pirates…Page another scoring threat thwarted when Smith picked off a Pirate pass in the end zone and late in the 4th quarter, the Smith Golden Eagles went on a drive and they capped it off with a touchdown pass from Terrell Dumpson to Myles White…The ball went through two Page defenders and was partially tipped, but Myles White was in “focus-mode” and he made the TD catch…Smith had cut the lead to 17-12 and the Golden Eagles were going for two, but the two-point conversion failed and the score sat at 17-12 Page and that is how the game ended, with a final of Page 17, Smith 12….

+++++One of the best/most exciting/interesting plays of the game came when one of the Pirate receivers, and it may have been Overton, caught a pass from Dominick Britt that was tipped by a Smith defensive back and after the tip and then the catch, the Page receiver ran up field and was hit and fumbled the ball and the ball rolled up field and rolled along on the ground and was recovered by a Page Pirate at the Smith Golden Eagle 16-yard line…Not a bad catch, progression, fumble and then recovery by Page….The Pirates did not turn the play into points, but it sure looked good on the field and made for some interesting and exciting moments in the Metro 4-A Friday Night Feature…..+++++

  1. High point christian 37, Cannon school 3 cougars improve to 7-2 on the year. One more game to go in regular season
A home seed in playoffs is very possible.

  2. How are the defensive lines looking on the local teams? Not getting any info on that side of the line.
