GC Women’s Soccer Hold Off Ferrum 3-2 on Senior Day

GREENSBORO, NC – The Pride women’s soccer team (8-5-1, 6-5-1 USAS) upended Ferrum College (7-8, 4-5 USAS) on Sunday afternoon by a 3-2 margin. Greensboro celebrated senior day prior to the match when they honored Allison Gibson and Sydney Boggs.

Gibson got the Pride on the board first in the tenth minute when she collected a pass from Samara Alba for the 1-0 advantage. Greensboro got on the board just before halftime when Meghan Cole found the foot of Gibson off a nice cross from the right side of the field pushing the lead to 2-0.

In the second half, Melanie Raton took a through ball from Gibson in the 53rd minute extending the lead to 3-0. Down the stretch the Panthers scored in the 65th and 89th minute getting to within 3-2. However, Greensboro was able to hold on for the 3-2 victory.

Greensboro held a slim 12-11 advantage on shots. Lauren Greeson and Boggs led the way with three shots apiece. Alba and Gibson were close behind with two apiece. Jessica Thatcher collected the win in goal making six saves.

The Pride returns to action on Thursday for their final home game of the season when they welcome Mary Baldwin College. The kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m.
