Wyndham Championship announces 2015 dates

WYNDHAM CHAMPIONSHIP ANNOUNCES 2015 TOURNAMENT DATES

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The PGA TOUR has released its 2015 schedule, and the Wyndham Championship will return to the late-season slot it has occupied since 2007, the tournament announced today. Colombian superstar Camilo Villegas won the 75th anniversary Wyndham Championship last month.

The 76th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 17-23, 2015 at Sedgefield Country Club. Because of the way the dates fall in 2015, the Wyndham will actually be a week later than usual next year, but it will still be the final regular-season event and set the field for the FedExCup Playoffs which begin the following week. During the FedExCup playoffs, the TOUR will take a week off between the Deutsche Bank Championship on Labor Day weekend and the BMW Championship, the third of four playoff tournaments.

“The 2015 PGA TOUR schedule works well for the Wyndham Championship,” tournament director Mark Brazil said. “The off week during the playoffs is important for us because it means golfers that play the World Golf Championship Bridgestone Invitational, the PGA Championship, the Wyndham and all four playoff events won’t have to play seven consecutive weeks. Historically, that off week has had a positive impact on the strength of our field. In addition, with the later week, we hope families will have completed their late-summer vacations and can be back in town when the PGA TOUR is here.”

Celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2014 and contested annually on the Donald Ross-designed course at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., the Wyndham Championship was founded in 1938 and is the sixth-oldest event on the PGA TOUR excluding the Majors. The tournament thanks title sponsor Wyndham Worldwide, presenting sponsor BB&T and Premier Partners, Cadillac, Harris Teeter, Lincoln Financial, McConnell Golf, New Breed Logistics, Sunbrella®, Technology Concepts & Design, Inc. and VF Corporation for their continued support. 1. Oh yeah late August is so lovely here. Heat and humidity and a short easy course is a good fit. You get done much quicker at -20. We also see how many great stars it attracts because everyone is so worried about the playoffs. Mark is a master as making a turd smell like roses.

  2. To Gfan:
    Typical comments from Mr. Negativity.

Obviously you didn’t attend the tournament this year. Record crowds, excellent leaderboard, outstanding weather (temperatures in mid-80’s). Rory, Tiger, Phil and others don’t come here; but that doesn’t take away from a great tournament on a terrific, historic course. Mark Brazil is recognized as one of the best Tournament Directors on the PGA Tour and has done a great job in turning the tournament around.
You ought to try coming to Sedgefield next year or better yet do something positive and become one of the 1,800+ volunteers.

  3. The number of posts on this subject proves my point. Nobody cares. I am not usually negative by the way just where the facts support it. Brazil is a glorified used car salesman.
