South Atlantic League Announces 2014 Annual All-Star Team

Eric Krupa, President of the South Atlantic League, announced the selection of the 2014 Annual All-Star Team. The All-Star Team was voted on by the 14 South Atlantic League Team’s Field Managers, General Managers, Sports Writers and Broadcasters for a total of 56 votes.

The Annual All-Star Team was highlighted by the selections for Most Outstanding Pitcher, Most Outstanding Major League Prospect and Most Valuable Player. Lucas Giolito of the Hagerstown Suns was selected as the Most Outstanding Pitcher and the Most Outstanding Major League Prospect. Giolito has 10-2 record and an ERA of 2.20 in 20 games. The Suns Wilmer Difo was chosen as the Most Valuable Player. Difo is hitting .321 and is leading the league in hits (174) and total bases (257) in 132 games.

Luis Rojas of the Savannah Sand Gnats has been selected as Manager of the 2014 Annual All-Star Team. Savannah pitching coach Marc Valdes was chosen to be the Coach of the 2014 Annual All-Star team. The Asheville Tourists had three players named to the Annual All-Star Team, including Ryan McMahon (third base) and outfielders David Dahl and Raimel Tapia. The Greensboro Grasshoppers, Hagerstown Suns and Savannah Sand Gnats each placed two players on the team. The Grasshoppers contributed Felix Munoz (first base) and Carlos Lopez (utility outfielder). The Suns provided Wilmer Difo (second base and Most Valuable Player) and Rafael Bautista (outfielder). The Sand Gnats supplied John Gant (right-handed pitcher) and Akeel Morris (relief pitcher). Augusta, Delmarva, Greenville, Lakewood and West Virginia each had one representative on the All-Star Team. Augusta’s Luis Ysla (left-handed pitcher), Delmarva’s Chance Sisco (catcher), Greenville’s Carlos Asuaje (utility infielder), Lakewood’s Willians Astudillo (designated hitter) and West Virginia’s JaCoby Jones (shortstop) complete the 2014 All-Star lineup.
