Kernersville Bulldogs’ Ray Crawford Named CVCL Player of the Year

The Carolina Virginia Collegiate League has announced that Kernersville Bulldog outfielder Ray Crawford has been named the 2014 CVCL Player of the Year in a vote taken by league coaches, general managers, and the board of directors. Crawford, a rising senior at Winston Salem State, capped off a great 2014 season with the award after he was named CIAA Player of the Year for the Rams earlier this year.

Crawford served as the anchor of a strong middle of the lineup for the regular season champion Kernersville Bulldogs in 2014. Crawford ranked at the top of the CVCL in most offensive categories during the 2014 summer season. Crawford’s .422 batting average ranked him third in the CVCL while his 46 RBI’s led all players in the Carolina Virginia Collegiate League. Crawford also led the CVCL in total hits (57) and ranked in the top five in doubles (12), triples (3), and slugging perctange (.600).

Kernersville Bulldog coaches comment on Ray Crawford:
Ray Crawford of Winston Salem State and the Kernersville Bulldogs was selected as the Carolina Virginia Summer Collegiate League MVP for 2014.

The leader of the Bulldogs in most offensive categories was announced as the league MVP by Commissioner Ken Winfrey on Monday. The Bulldogs, the regular season CVCL champions, tied a franchise record with a 45-11 record this summer and Crawford was the catalyst for those wins. Crawford led the league in hits with 53, and rbis with 47. He had 33 runs scored with 12 doubles, three triples and 2 homers along with 14 walks and a .477 on base average to go with his .422 batting average for the whole year!

“ It was an unreal summer performance and it came for the most part in the clutch game situations. Several of our 11 losses this year occurred without Ray while he was rehabbing a wrist injury received at the end of their college season. He was our veteran leader and he came through time and time again! ” stated head coach Dustin Ijames.
