Carolina Panthers exhibition football on Friday night:Some find it exciting and others find it boring(Bills 20-18 over Panthers)

Lots of excitement surrounding the Carolina Panthers 2014 season opener last night at Bank of America Stadium, in Charlotte…

Many football fans, just glad to be watching football again, found this game to be exciting and still others, watching for real football and not really finding any, found this game to be boring…

The Panthers lost 20-18 to the Buffalo Bills and you have to think much of the excitement had died down, once the fans realized Cam Newton would not be taking any snaps at all Friday night….

The level of excitement finally reached a crescendo, when Kelvin Benjamin, the First Round draft pick out of Florida State, made a diving/leaping grab for a touchdown in the end zone…

That was some kind of catch by the Panthers new ‘big-play/go-to guy’ at wide receiver, but was that enough to allow this game to be labeled exciting???

Benjamin is the man who is supposed to make the fans forget Steve Smith Sr. and for a while on Friday night, KB was making that happen….

You had Derek Anderson as your starting quarterback in place of Cam Newton….Anderson is OK, but not anywhere near the same neighborhood as Newton, when it come to that excitement level…The number two QB was someone named Blanchard and he was not that good at all, at least not last night…

I did get some good feelings when it came to Joe Webb, as the #3 QB and this kind of takes you back to the days of Jack Webb and Joe Friday from the Dragnet series, but you had to like the way Webb(Joe) was dragging his arm after the passes were released and two of those ‘Webb Gems’ went for touchdowns…

The running game without DeAngelo Williams on the field was not good…The backup running backs, with the exception of Mike Tolbert, did not show me much of anything at all….Tolbert is always going to give you a maximum effort and that is the name of his game, but as for the other RB’s, please find a way to get these men some yards…It looked like they were running in quicksand, at times out there last evening…

The defense did not look all that bad and again on the plus sides you have to give it up to Kelvin Benjamin and Joe Webb from the offense, I think they gave you the closest thing to a Five-Star performance in Friday’s exhibition game…

Mark down Benjamin and Webb and we’ll keep an eye on them and see what they do next week…..Webb is working to land a job and Benjamin has just embarked on a career…..Watch these two as we head toward Week #2 of the exhibition season….

As for Friday night, was the game exciting or was it boring?

Got to give this one a ‘Thumbs Up’ for boring….Other than the work by Webb late, this game was over from an interest level, after the ‘Benjamin Catch’ and that baby came real early in the contest….

And that’s the way it is in our first ‘Saturday Morning Rewind’ of the new 2014 football season…..
