Elon Track and Field Receives USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS – The Elon University women’s track and field team received All-Academic team honors by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) for the eighth straight year as announced by the association on Wednesday, July 23.

Individually, Elon’s Megan Kirschling was also recognized by the USTFCCCA in earning All-Academic honors. Kirschling was one of 727 female student-athletes to receive All-Academic honors with 3.80 GPA as a marketing major. Kirschling captured the Southern Conference outdoor high jump title after setting a new league record with a cleared height of 5’ 10.5” (1.79m) and advanced to the NCAA East Preliminaries this past season.

As a team, the Phoenix was one of 208 programs to receive recognition while maintaining a 3.34 GPA from the 2013-14 academic school year. The maroon and gold has received All-Academic honors in eight of head coach Mark Elliston’s nine years at Elon.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
