How ’bout that Harris and Burnett breaking bad and being the Best/MVP’s??

Shaylen/Shay/Shayla Burnett and Jeremy Harris had outstanding games in the NCCA Basketball All-Star Games last night at the Greensboro Coliseum and we just wanted to say, any way, if it is Shay, Shayla or Shaylen; Shay better than OK last night at the Coliseum….I was seeing 16 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists for the young lady from Southern Alamance High School, heading to Elon University this fall and that is not all, she walked out of the building with the MVP trophy and for that we say, great job Shay….Shay came ready to play and she did a super job representing our local Triad area and our local Metro 4-A Conference last night in the big barn on West Lee Street, as Rich Brenner used to call the Greensboro Coliseum…

Jeremy Harris turned heads again and he does every time he hits the basketball court….It might be a dunk, a ‘set-up for a bucket pass’ and like I saw on the NEWS 2 Sports highlights last night, a layup…..A seemingly rare sight from Jeremy Harris(Page High School)…An underhanded lay-in/layup??? You’ve got to be kidding me….From Jeremy Harris known for his rim-rattling tomahawk dunks??? Yes, and it was of the smoothest and just plain nicest shots I had ever seen from Jeremy….Good plain old fundamental basketball….And those items and an all-around game will land you the MVP award and that is exactly what Jeremy took home from the 2014 men’s All Star basketball game last night….And those 24 points don’t hurt your cause one bit either…Got say smooth and cool on this night for Jeremy Harris and a good job as always, when he laces up those sneakers….

Good thing to see to and we should hear more people talking about the fact that our local Metro 4-A Conference had kids taking home BOTH MVP Awards last evening….A very good year for the Metro 4-A and again, a very solid night for Shaylen Burnett and for Jeremy Harris….A couple of kids you can be real proud of the next time you see a basketball bouncing down your driveway, or your street….

*****Note, I was not at the games, but I caught all the highlights from Mike Solarte on Time Warner Cable on ABC 45 and from Liz Crawford at WFMY NEWS 2 Sports…I was downtown watching ‘Shoeless’ Joe Jackson’s great grandson put a hurtin’ on the Hoppers….The young Joe Jackson, from Greenville, S.C. and out of the Citadel, had a big triple that helped catapult the Hickory Crawdads past the Greensboro Grasshoppers, last night at NewBridge Bank Park. I also was able to get news and quick stats on Shaylen and Jeremy from our man David Willoughby, with the North Carolina Coaches Association….*****

+++++Quote from Jeremy Harris prior to last night’s All-Star basketball game:
“I’m honored to be playing in the all-star game. I’m not expecting anything. I have nothing to prove.”

+++++Quote from Shaylen Burnett prior to last night’s All-Star basketball game:
“It is an honor and a privilege to be selected to play in such an event. I am expecting to gain experience competing against top competition.”

+++++Note on Cameron Nieters from Bishop McGuinness:
“We had a good nature of competitiveness tonight,” said West head coach Scott Waugh of Wilkes Central. “These kids are used to seeing major competition, and there isn’t any ‘back down’ in them.”

Waugh pointed to starting guard Nieters as a focal point of his makeshift offense that came together and developed chemistry after just a handful of practices leading up to the game.

“She didn’t average more than eight points at Bishop, but she’s a player who’s got more than that going on,” he said. “Tonight she was impressive with her court sense, her savvy, her movement off the ball and her ability to see and find people.”
*****Notes on Nieters from Coach Waugh coming in from www.wralsportsfan.com and the HSOT with Zach Mayo and Nick Stevens….*****
