Elon Softball Trio Earns Spot on All-State Softball Teams

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University softball trio of Carleigh Nester, Alaina Hall and Emily Cameron were all selected to the 2014 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State Softball Teams as announced today, July 1, by the association.

Nester received first team honors in the outfield and her third overall selection on the All-State teams. Cameron and Hall were placed on the second team at utility and in the outfield, respectively, while receiving spots on the team for the first time.

The NCCSIA All-State accolade is the latest honor for Nester, who had a record-breaking 2014 senior campaign. The Kernersville, N.C., native was an third team NFCA All-Region selection and first team All-Southern Conference honoree after being the top run producer for the maroon and gold during the year. Nester batted .300 and set the single-season home run record at Elon with 15 home runs to go with 42 RBI, a .636 slugging percentage while adding 11 doubles and 106 total bases. She became the program’s all-time leader in homers, RBI, doubles and slugging percentage during the season and fielded a perfect 1.000 percentage for the second straight season.

Hall had an impressive freshman campaign, earning second team All-SoCon honors. She led the team in average (.341), hits (56), triples (three) and stolen bases (17) to go with three homers and 15 RBI. She also paced the squad with 14 multi-hit games and had an 11-game hitting streak to go with a 13-game reach base streak.

Cameron was tied second on the team in homers with eight and was third overall in average (.292), runs scored (26), RBI (26), and total bases (67). She was selected as the SoCon’s Player of the Month for February after hitting .390 with six home runs, 16 RBI, and a pair of doubles in February, helping the Phoenix to an 8-5-1 record. She hit safely in 11 of the Phoenix’s 14 contests and had four multi-hit and multi-RBI games during the month.

Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.

NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the university (NCAA Division I) and college (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, softball and baseball.
