Elon’s Nester Selected to NFCA All-Region Softball Teams

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Senior outfielder Carleigh Nester of the Elon University softball team was selected to the 2014 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I Mideast All-Region teams today, May 15, as announced by the association. Nester received her second career All-Region honor after being tabbed to the third team.

The Kernersville, North Carolina, native was the top run producer for the maroon and gold this season, setting several program records along the way. Nester batted .300 and was among the top-five of the Southern Conference in slugging percentage (.663), RBI (42), doubles (11), home runs (15), total bases (106) and walks (27). She became the Phoenix’s all-time career leader in RBI, doubles, home runs and slugging percentage and set the program’s single-season home run record during her senior campaign.

Nester also showcased a gold glove while patrolling both center and left field this season, recording a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage for the second straight season. She was selected as the SoCon Player of the Week on March 3, and earned first team all-league honors for the second consecutive season.

The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each respective region and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2014 NFCA Division I All-American teams.

The 2014 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced on Monday, May 28, via NFCA.org.
