HPU Women’s Golf Matches Best Big South Tournament Finish In Program History

NINETY SIX, S.C. – The High Point University women’s golf team finished third at the Big South Conference Tournament at The Patriot at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, S.C. The Panthers third place finish matched the best finish in program history. Freshman Danielle Fuss placed ninth and is HPU’s first top-10 finisher since 2011.

“I am so proud of this team and happy especially for Danielle,” said head coach Vici Pate Flesher. “Danielle played so well and it isn’t a fluke, she has worked so hard this year. The team set its sights on a lot of school records but they really worked hard to match the best Big South Tournament finish ever. I am so excited that we return everyone next year and we will continue to improve and take the program to greater heights.”

High Point carded a team score of 316 in the final round to finish with a 921 (301-304-316). The Panthers’ 921 is the lowest score for the program ever at a Big South Tournament. HPU’s previous best was a 930 in 2005.

Freshman Danielle Fuss was HPU’s top finisher in ninth place. Fuss carded a 227 (74-76-77). Fuss is HPU’s first top-10 finisher since Jessica Neese placed fifth in 2011.

Freshman Sarah Bae carded a 76 in Tuesday’s final round to move from 22nd at the start of the day to a 13th-place finish. Bae finished the tournament at 231 (79-76-76).

Sophomore Casey Ward tied for 18th with a three-day score of 233 (78-73-82) and junior Grier Bennett carded a 236 (72-82-82) to finish 25th. Sophomore Tan Cheeranont finished tied for 26th with a 237 (77-79-81).

Campbell led the entire tournament to take the Big South title. Louise Latorre led the Camels with a 213 to take the individual title. The top four teams remained unchanged throughout the tournament as Coastal Carolina finished ahead of HPU in second and Gardner-Webb took fourth.

This matched the best finish for HPU in the Big South Tournament. High Point also finished third at the 2005 Big South Conference Championship.
