College Softball News – Guilford’s Casey Snead Named ODAC Softball Pitcher of the Week

FOREST, Va.- Guilford College’s Casey Snead garnered Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Pitcher of the Week honors Monday. This marks the second time in the sophomore’s career that she has picked up the weekly honors as the league’s top pitcher.

Snead (4-0) collected her second complete-game victory this past Wednesday against North Carolina Wesleyan College, leading the Quakers past the Battling Bishops, 7-1, in game one. Snead limited the Battling Bishops to just one run on three hits, fanning four batters. The sophomore would only allow four base runners for the entire contest. Snead also contributed offensively, batting 1-for-3 in game one. With the win, the sophomore has picked up wins her last four apprearances, two from complete-game victories.

Snead’s earned-run average (1.48) leads the team and stands fifth in the ODAC. In 23 and two third innings this season, she has given up just five earned runs on 17 hits while striking out 14 batters. Snead has also contributed with the bat, hitting .286 with a double and one RBI.

Coach Dennis Shores’ team (13-1), currently off to the best start in program history, returns to the field Wednesday at 3 p.m. inside Haworth Field to host Roanoke College in the Quakers’ first conference doubleheader of the season.
