Southwest Guilford beat previously unbeaten Garinger High School in a 3 overtime thriller. Trent Mayberry buried the game-winning goal with 3 minutes left in overtime to send the Cowboys to the third round of the NCHSAA soccer playoffs. Other goals were scored by Evan Thomas and Brian Jobe notched the game-tying goal with 1:16 to go in regulation…..

Garinger’s magical soccer season came to an end Saturday night at home.
The Wildcats, who have players from seven different countries, fell 3-2 to Southwest Guilford. The teams played 80 minutes of regulation, then two 10-minute overtimes before starting the first of two 5-minute sudden-death overtime periods. Garinger lost in the first sudden-death OT.

Ranked a school-best No. 2 in the Observer Sweet 16 poll and a school-best No. 2 in the N.C. 4A coaches poll, Garinger ends its season at 22-1.

Southwest Guilford (17-4-2) won its third straight match and will play South Mecklenburg at home in the third round.
