Women’s Soccer: Eastern Mennonite 2, Guilford 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford put on a furious rally late in the second half but fell just short, 2-1, against Eastern Mennonite in a women’s Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game Saturday night at the Armfield Athletic Center.

Guilford (1-18, 1-11 ODAC) played an inspired game on Senior Night. After giving up a goal midway through the first half, the Quakers buckled down and held the Royals scoreless for the rest of the half.

There was a flurry of action over a two-minute span late in the second half. Caroline Bishop took a pretty feed from Kelli Uresti and scored for the Quakers, knotting the game at 1-1.

But just as quick as Guilford tied the game, Eastern Mennonite (10-7, 5-6 ODAC) went back up on a goal from the left side by Sophie Smith.

Less than a minute later, it looked like the Quakers were going to even the score again, but a shot by Uresti hit the post and bounced away.

Guilford continued to press the action but could not get another scoring chance.

Abby Gove made three saves in net for the Quakers.

This was the final game for seniors Leticia Benitez, Bishop, Becca Colley Emily Comerford, Gove and Cori Karoly.
