Women’s Soccer: Roanoke 3, Guilford 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Roanoke scored two goals in the final five minutes to earn a 3-1 win over Guilford in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game Wednesday afternoon at the Armfield Athletic Center.

The Maroons (8-6-2, 6-3-1 ODAC) came in with a five-game unbeaten streak but Guilford scored the game’s first goal. Caroline Bishop received a nice feed from Kelli Uresti and fired in her second goal of the season to give the Quakers a 1-0 lead.

Guilford (1-17, 1-10 ODAC) went into intermission up by a goal but Roanoke tied things up early in the second half when Linnea Kremer collected a loose ball and hit the back of the net.

The game remained knotted at 1-1 until 85:45, when Lauren O’Brien gave the Maroons their first lead of the day. Two minutes later Kara Kapell added a goal to clinch the game for Roanoke and make a winner out of Sarah Dvorak.

Abby Gove made 11 stops for the Quakers.

Coach Michael Shenigo’s squad concludes the regular season on Saturday, when Guilford hosts ODAC foe Eastern Mennonite at 6:00 on Senior Day.
