College Cross Country Results – Guilford Runs at Blue Ridge Open

BOONE, N.C. – Guilford senior Andris Goncarovs ran the third-fastest eight-kilometer time in school histoy to help the Quakers place fifth among nine non-NCAA Division I teams at Friday’s Blue Ridge Open. Guilford’s women took sixth among seven non-Division I squads, thanks in part to Rebecca Reyna’s (Liberty, N.C./Southern Alamance) 27th-place individual finish.

Goncarovs completed the loop at the Don Kennedy Trails in a personal-best time of 25 minutes, 19.51 seconds. He lowered his career low by over 15 seconds and had the top result among NCAA Division III runners. Goncarovs’ clocking stood 23rd among all 229 contestants in the race.

Fellow Guilford seniors Chad Norton and David Cason (Clemmons, N.C./West Forsyth) followed Goncarovs among non-Division I runners, placing fifth and sixth, respectively. Norton had his best time of the season and sixth-fastest in Guilford history with a 25:29.81 clocking. Cason also set a personal record with his time of 25:43.23 that ranks 13th all-time at Guilford. Freshman Nick Reynolds (30:33.65, 50th) and senior Patrick Westervelt (31:53.76, 54th) rounded out the Quakers’ scorers.

Cedarville University’s Matt Brooker (24:27.07) had the top non-Division I result and led the Division II Yellow Jackets to the team title with 21 points. Eastern Mennonite University was second with 105 points, followed by Trevecca Nazarene University (106), Lynchburg College (109) and Guilford.

Reyna ran the five-kilometer women’s course in 21:59.67, which ranks 21st among the fastest times in Guilford history. She finished two places ahead of teammate Naomi Madaras (22:10.65) among non-Division I runners. Pasangi Perera (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) was 36th in her first race since August with a time of 23:21.57. Teammates Emily Cash (Hurdle Mills, N.C./Orange) (23:58.90, 37th) and Kate Jenkins-Sullivan (24:19.70. 38th) followed and rounded out the Quakers’ scorers.

Milligan College’s 37 points earned the top spot among non-Division I women’s teams. Trevecca Nazarene (55) placed second, followed by Eastern Mennonite (63). Belmont Abbey’s Lucy Schmitz topped the non-Division I harriers with a time of 19:01.34.
