More on the death of young high school basketball player Celeste Burgess, from New Hope Christian Academy in Thomasville and Nount Tabor High School in Winston-Salem…Celeste, just 14 years old, but one of the top-rated young basketball players in the Southeast United States, died Friday in an automobile accident down in Alabama while on a basketball visit to Auburn University…She played for Delaney Rudd(New Hope Christian Academy) on his school team an on his AAU teams….

According to reports from the Alabama State Troopers and the Troy (Ala.) Messenger, Burgess was a passenger in a Nissan Altima driven by Marcus Peoples, 27, of Warner Robins, Ga. She was injured when a Chrysler Town and Country van driven by Tammy Johnson of Banks, Ala., collided with the Altima on Friday morning on Alabama 93, north of Brundidge.

Johnson, 44, died at the scene.

Burgess was taken to Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan and died about five hours later, Sgt. Steve Jarrett of the Alabama Department of Public Safety told the Journal.
