Our prayers continue for the family of Josh Level:Josh Level(New Garden Friends School) has passed away

Age 17 and he is gone…Josh Level from New Garden Friends School has died….His heart stopped beating Tuesday night during a NGFS Bears basketball game….

From Joseph Level: The Celebration of Life service for my son, Josh Level ,will be streamed live courtesy of www.mtzbc.com. If you plan on watching, it is suggested that you log on well in advance of 11am.

Josh Level is dead and we want to say RIP Josh Level and please prayer for his family….His dad Joseph Level is like a brother to this web site….He has been following us here at the site for many years….

I just saw Josh playing basketball against the Vandalia Christian School Vikings, two weeks ago….(Josh Level was an outstanding young basketball player.)

Please keep the Level family in your prayers and we will have more details on the death of Josh Level here tomorrow….

Rest in Peace(RIP) Josh Level

*****Joseph Level(Josh’s dad) was with 1510 WEAL radio and with 97.1FM radio for many, many years and I just know the entire community thoroughout Greensboro will want to lift up the entire Level family, in this time of extreme loss.*****

+++++Josh spent time with the Dudley Panthers(P.J Hairston, Reggie Dillard, JaQuel Richmond, DJ Alston, Sam Hunt and more), so I know the Panther family is mourning his loss, Josh was also spent time with Westchester Country Day(Deuce Bello, Quincey Miller, Ike Nwamu, C.J. Plummer) and he was with Coach David Gaines and the Christ School for one season…Two summers ago, Josh was one of the hottest basketball prospects on the East Coast and Dave Telep, along with Rick Lewis had him on their key prospects list…Josh blew his knee out this past summer and that had slowed his progress, but he was on his way back with the New Garden Friends School Bears and he was fitting in nicely with Kanayo Obi-Rapu Jr., Cameron Williams, Isaiah Manderson, Mason Wyrick, Noah Poulos, Ikenna Smart and the Bears….Josh was an excellent basketball player and he was on his way, but last night his life was cut short and please, we ask you again, to keep the family of Josh Level in your prayers…We knew him well and he will be missed and it is a shame that he never had the chance to reach his full potential, but he was taken away for a purpose and we will know that reason, in due time….*****

RIP Josh Level…..

  1. We will pray for this family and may GOD be with his soul. I met this kid several times over at GDS games and even at the barber shop – he always had a smile on his face and he was an extremely polite youth man beyond his years. I am so sorry that such a quality young man has left so soon. Prayers for the family from our family.

  2. What sad news to wake up to. I had the pleasure of watching Josh play for Christ School the past couple of years until his return to Greensboro. A great kid with unbeievable “hops”. What a tragedy to see such a good athlete die so young. My heart aches for Joseph and the entire family.

  3. Josh was an outstanding young man….had the pleasure of watching him play at the Y as a youth while I was running the basketball league downtown. Thoughts and prayers to the family!!!!

  4. I didn’t know Josh Level but as a parent, my heart is sad for his family right now! It’s hard losing someone you love period, but to lose your child at such a young age is heartbreaking! My prayers & thoughts are with his family right now!

  5. Very sad to wake up to this news. My son played rec league football with Josh for 4 years at the Ragsdale YMCA. Tanner was the only one on the team that would go up against Josh in retribution because Josh was so tall no one else was crazy enough to do it. Josh was a respectful, polite young man. May God wrap his family in his arms at this sorrowful time. Prayers are going out to this family. Love you Level family!

  6. Message/Release from the New Garden Friends School on the death of Josh Level:

David Tomlin, Head of New Garden Friends School, and Darrell Cotton, Head of the Upper School, sent a message to the New Garden Friends School community on Tuesday, February 19, announcing the death of a student who died at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after collapsing during an evening basketball game at Quality Education in Winston-Salem.

Here is the text of that message:

Dear New Garden Friends School Community,

It pains us deeply to inform you of the loss tonight of one of our students.

Josh Level, a junior at NGFS, died after collapsing during a basketball game at Quality Education in Winston-Salem.

We will provide you with information as it comes available about funeral arrangements.

Tomorrow we will have Meeting for Worship in the morning, and we will have counselors on site for students, staff and faculty.

We know that you join us in conveying the deepest sorrow and most sincere condolences of the New Garden Friends School community to Josh’s parents and family.

    In Peace,

    David Tomlin

    Darrell Cotton

  7. We also want to lift up Coach David Secor, at the New Garden Friends School, as he works with his basketball team to help them during this time of grief….

  8. My prayers goes out to the Level family. Josh was a really good kid whom use to play ball with us at the Bryant YMCA. Losing a kid is one of the most difficult experience a parent will ever have to endure. We pray God speed that you trust in him.

  9. Good to hear from Mr. Milton Jenkins…He has seen things such as this first-hand…

Rodney Purvis(N.C. State basketball) on the death of Josh Level by way of Twitter:

My heart is so heavy for that young kid. This is a huge eye opener for me personally. Put issues aside and enjoy the game. #RIPJoshLevel

  10. So sorry to hear about the passing of Josh. I was just laughing with him on Saturday night as we were working the clock and scorebook at the Middle School All Star Game. Words are never appropriate in a situation like this. My condolences go to my good friend Joseph Level, and the Level family

  11. I am am so sad to hear the news about the loss of Josh Level. My heart is heavy for not only the loss of Josh, but for his family as well. I know the basketball community has lost a great basketball player as well as a great young man. RIP Josh.

  12. I didn’t know Josh, first hand ;However, I have been bless to have had the chance to get to know his father Joseph Level during the years his 3 Boys and 1 Daughter went thru Dudley. The one thing I can completely take away from our conversations as we set together during the games, was how much he loves his children wholeheartly. Everyone in that family is nice and polite. From the Wife, Mother In Law and Children.I don’t understand why the super nice people have to go thru this type of deal.I could tell he was a great kid, that had some loving parents and siblings as a back bone.

  13. When I heard this news last night my heart was heavy. I remember Josh as a freshman when I coached Dudley’s JV girls. His dad was so supportive and all of the children were well behaved. Josh was the one who would make u laugh from being silly. I know there is nothing that can be said or done but I hope the entire basketball community can come together for this one. I hope we can all put aside minor issues and realize how precious life really is. I will be praying for the Level family as well as the Greensboro basketball family. And I hope that the children who were blessed with Josh as a friend and teammate will be able to cope and learn from this.

  14. I have a good pic that a friend too from the VCS game that you spoke of above. E-mail me if you want to post it.

  15. Unbelievable. I had just watched Josh a couple of weeks ago at Vandalia. Such a promising career cut way too short. My thoughts and prayers are with Josh’s family and friends.

  16. I can’t imagine the pain the family must be going through. Our family’s thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Makes all of life’s other problems seem a lot smaller.

  17. My son was a teammate of Josh’s while playing football at Lincoln and Dudley.I always enjoyed sitting in the stands with Joesph, he taught me how to be a supportive parent.Know his heart is heavy now,my heart is heavy with you brother.

    Prayers to the family
