GC Men’s Swimming 2nd; Women 5th After Day 1 at ODAC Championship

The Pride men’s swim team turned in a second place day one finish, with the women fifth at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships. The men are sandwiched between first place Hampden-Sydney and Randolph-Macon in the three team men’s field, while the women are comfortably placed in the middle of the nine team women’s line-up.

In timed finals for the men, both the 200 freestyle relay team of Josh Peregoy, Craig Robinson, Eddie Kirby, and Justin Schmitz, and the 400 medley relay team of Robinson, Rob Smith, Kirby, and Peregoy finished first with new program records.

Individually, Eddie Kirby won the 500 free with a new program record of 5:22.25. Matt Dittemore placed second and Ryan Hurd placed third. Peregoy placed second in the 50 freestyle and his split leading off the 200 Freestyle relay (23.46) established a new program record.

The women’s team also had numerous solid swims on the day beginning in the prelims. Erin Gard qualified tenth in the 200 individual medley with the third fastest time in team history. White also qualified in 16th with the seventh fastest time in school history. In the 50 freestyle, Regina Robertson came in sixth with the second best event time in program history, while Dani horne qualified in seventh with the third fastest time.

The morning swims translated to solid evening performances with The Pride posting top ten finishes in the 200 yard freestyle relay (5th), 50 yard freestyle (Robertson – 7th), and 400 yard medley relay (6th).
