Northern Guilford to host NFL Development Clinic this coming Monday and Tuesday(Plus a look ahead at 2012)

Northern Guilford will host the NFL High School Player Development Clinic June 11 and 12 with over 200 football players registered. Guilford County schools attending
are Eastern, Grimsley, Smith, Southwest, and Northern. All 4 Rockingham County
schools will be in attendance.

This will be a great opportunity for the attending schools to get information that they need for the upcoming season and to have some workout time in this NFL-type setting….There will be keynote speakers from what I have been reading, including Herb Appenzeller(Guilford College Sports Management Doctor) and Judge Susan Bray…Should be a very good event for all involved…

Spoke to Coach Damon Coiro of Grimsley on Monday and he said he was hoping to take at least 50 players out there with him and his Whirlie staff and if he could 70 kids to go, he would more than happy to take that many with him to Northern also…

Northern Guilford will have one of the state’s top players this coming season in runningback T.J. Logan….He will be the marque player in Guilford County….He will be one of the Top 5 players in the state and I would say, at least one of the Top 100 in the nation…He is that good, with over 2,500 yards rushing last season and 30-plus TD’s…..Logan is getting looks from all of the top college teams on the East coast and Ohio State is one of his top suitors…This kid can fly and he knows how to carry the ball and can find the end zone, probably with his eyes closed, at least when he gets to the five……Logan is your man, mark it down, he will be the talk of the state this coming season, as the Northern Guilford Nighthawks go for their third straight NCHSAA 3-AA football title…One of the crazy things about this upcoming high school football season is that the Page Pirates had the top quarterback in the Triad last year in James Summers(also one of the tops in the state) and now thay might just have the top QB again this season, in Jordan Putnam…I have followed Putnam closely while he has been at Page, as close as anyone other than his coaches and I know what this kid can do, better than anyone around….He is a proven winner(35-0) while in uniform as a Page Pirate and he has the tools and the smarts, really has the smarts; Yale, Davidson, the Naval Academy and many other top academic institutions want him, he is the real deal and he loves the challenge of this upcoming season….Page will be headed down to Hoover, Alabama for the top-of-the-line 7 on 7’s in July…..Justin Johnson, the QB over at High Point Central is another kid to be on the lookout for…One of the top all-around athletes in the state, Johnson put up big numbers last season, he just needs to follow that up with wins this year and he has to clearly understand his leadership role with the HP Central Bison and be mature enough to lead them to wins over the top teams like Ragsdale, Northwest Guilford, East Forsyth and the like….NWG’s Reid Baxter is back and the little back can run and this year, with what we expect for to be an increased workload, he will have to be able to take the pounding too….Baxter could well be the fastest back/return man in the county, but I would love to see that foot race(barefoot prefered) with Baxter and T.J. Logan…..

Lots more coming down the road, but two of the most intriguing storylines of the upcoming season, will be Northern going for the three in a-row and how Logan carries them and the Page Pirates coming off that NCHSAA 4-AA title with the new full-time QB Jordan Putnam…Putnam is not new at QB by any stretch of the imagination, but he will be full-time in the 2012 season…Big offensive line crew back for Page too…Big in size and in numbers…Also will be looking forward to seeing how the new Herndon kid(Coalson) does at QB for Ragsdale and if Brandon Walker can have a break-out year…..

We nave maybe taken this a little too far for this early in the season, and again the major emphasis should be on the event coming next Monday and Tuesday to Northern Guilford High School….That will be the NFL Development Clinic…..

  1. I’m bout ready for some Football!!!!!

Hey Andy how bout a team by team outlook/breakdown for this season. It would be nice to hear what our teams here in Guilford County have this year and what their expectations are. BTW its never to early for some HS Football!!!!

  2. It is about time Greensborosports started talking some football, you have got alot of catching up to do keep it going.

  3. Here’s how I see the conferences looking

    Metro—-

    Page
    Dudley
    SE Guilford
    Grimsley
    Smith
    S.Alamance
    Western

    Piedmont—

    East Forsyth
    Ragsdale
    NW Guilford
    HP Central
    Glenn
    SW Guilford
    Parkland

  4. Some of those will be fairly easy calls, cause I heard East Forsyth is loaded and one or two of the keys to looking for will how well Southern Guilford does in replacing departed QB Jamie Cunningham and WR/DB Matt Colvin who both graduated for Howard and I do believe that Southern returns theh runningback Mosley, I think his name is…..Malik Mosley and he would be one of the top runningbacks in the state coming back in….Dudley will have senior lefty QB Richard Hayes and Hayes will be looking for a banner senior year…..Brock Deatheridge at Western Alamance is another one of those kids that is one of the fastest in the state..

The Northern Guilford QB spot will one of interest with Daniel Downing headed to Coastal Carolina and he is one of the best all-around players to ever come through here…He would run through an electric fence for you…..NWG QB spot will one to keep your specs on too with Matt Pawlowski now at Guilford College….The Ritz kid or the Christian Dix fellow would be the man to take over..You know the kid that moved in here from Texas a few years back….He was the punter last year and burned Ragsdale on that 4th and 25 from the 19-yard line on the fake punt for a first down…

We will have more as we move on through June and soon on into July and that will be the moment of truth….

  5. The times for the NFL HSPD at Northern Guilford per Coach Roscoe:

    Monday (11th) and Tuesday (12th) from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.

  6. TJ Logan is the only back in Guilford County with numbers better than Jamal Petty last year. It’s definitley going to be an interesting year on the Gridiron…….Can’t Wait!

  7. Is Jamal back for SEG this year??? Maybe you can take us back and give us some of those numbers he had from last year….There have been so many Pettys at Southeast over the years that is hard to keep up with them all….Jamal, Phil, Richard, Lee, Kyle, Bob, Richie, Fred and Betty, there have been more than I can keep up with….

Take us back to some of those numbers from last year and tell us if he will back to improve on those this year…

We will look for Will Greene as #1 QB and Cody Ezzell as the #2 man….

  8. 1557 yds and 22 TDs in 13 games. This is Jamal’s Senior year and you can bet that he will be at least 75% of SEG’s offense. Both sides of the line have improved as well as the defense, so expect big things from SEG this year.

  9. Got the news in today on the High Point Christian Cougars and the word on their QB Quentin Chavis…….

The High Point Christian Academy’s football team. They will be better this coming year, their third
year of high school football. They are returning some good players along with new
players that will be transferring in from other schools. The top QB in the county
last year as far as yardage was Quentin Chavis with 170 Comp 333 attempts and 2082
yrds with 16 TD’s. He will be back for his senior year.

*****Good to be getting the news in from all of the outlets…..*****

  10. Can’t wait to see Loosemore now at Grimsley with Johnnie Roscoe. Maybe they can patch things up lol
