Eastern Guilford senior Brandon Hairston, a two-time member of the Burlington Times-News All-Region first team boys’ basketball team, said he hasn’t given up on pursuing a Division I stop after agreeing to play for Coastal Bend College, a two-year school in Beeville, Texas.
“Instead of settling for a Division II (program), I’m going to work on my grades and my basketball,” Hairston said Thursday night. “Work my hardest to go D-I from there and it should help me mature faster.”
Hairston, a 6-foot-4 forward, said he received interest from Barton, Pfeiffer and Concord before deciding the junior-college route would be best. He also had been in contact with some small-conference Division I programs.
