Greensboro Roller Derby’s Second Annual Flat Track Alleycat Bike Race

Greensboro cyclists, gear up: Greensboro Roller Derby is proud to be hosting its 2nd Annual Flat Track Alleycat Bike Race on Saturday May 19th. This event promises to be the most fun you can have on two wheels. Race solo, or race with a partner. Cost to participate is just $15, or $10 and 5 non-perishable food items. (Cash only, please.) Get an additional $1 off your entry fee if you wear your Greensboro Roller Derby shirt!

To register for the race, bring your bike and your registration fee to Legitimate Business (1317 Grove Street, Greensboro, NC 27403) on race day between 1 and 2 pm. All participants must be 18 or older, please. The race will start promptly at 2pm. Use of helmets will be handsomely rewarded, and there will be a prize for the best team theme or costume in addition to other prizes. In all, over $1000 in prizes will be awarded!

Alleycat bike races originated among bike messengers. They are traditionally an underground event and involve finding the quickest route between task checkpoints that are not revealed until the start of the race. As a result, the race route is variable and checkpoints remain a closely-guarded secret. Find out more by visiting Greensboro Roller Derby on Facebook and checking out the event page.

Greensboro Roller Derby was founded in February 2010. Since the league’s debut bout in October of 2010, Greensboro Roller Derby has grown steadily, now supporting over forty skaters in three home teams that compete locally, and a highly competitive travel team that competes regionally. Please support local roller derby by joining us in racing on only two wheels, just for one day!
